Oswestry Open House Community Christmas
Oswestry Christmas Day Open House is a community project which provides a full Christmas dinner, entertainment, gifts and transport to members of the local community on Christmas Day.
We host our special event at The Centre on Oak St, Oswestry on Christmas Day from 10am-2pm.
Our aim is to tackle social isolation and hardship in the festive season, as well as reconnect our community in the true spirit of Christmas.
We have no entry requirements. Our event is completely free and open to everyone in the community who would like to spend Christmas Day with others.
You can register using the links below to volunteer, join us as a guest on Christmas Day or book a delivery if you are a family who would prefer to spend Christmas at home.

Our Christmas Tale…
Our project began back in 2014, when we looked for somewhere to volunteer on Christmas Day and found that there was nowhere available for the local people of Oswestry to spend the day with others. We realised that huge numbers of people in our community were spending Christmas alone, were tired of the financial pressure, with many unable to afford anything to eat or keep warm. We also realised there were children in Oswestry missing out on a visit from Santa. Unhappy with this situation, with just six weeks to go before Christmas arrived, we decided to do something about that.
Starting with a Facebook page, having never run a community project before, we reached out to the local community to help us make our vision happen. The community came out in droves; donating decorations, food and gifts and giving up their own Christmas’ at home to make sure others didn’t spend it alone. Local businesses generously donated nearly all the food we needed, as well as decorations and raffle prizes.
Thanks to Oswestry Council, we have a fantastic venue at The Centre on Oak St to host our event. To date, our huge community effort has served over four hundred guests. We now not only provide a free event at The Centre, but we also deliver Christmas dinners, gifts and goody bags to families who prefer to spend Christmas at home. This year we would like to help even more people to celebrate and enjoy Christmas without worry.
Every year, we are overwhelmed by the response from the people of Oswestry and it is simply impossible to do it without the community coming together. As a project, we receive no funding and rely on the generosity of individuals and local businesses to provide everything we need to make our very special Christmas happen. With your help, we can keep Oswestry Christmas Day Open House at the heart of our community at Christmas for many years to come.
