Oswestry Open House is a community project that began in November 2014. The project provides a full Christmas dinner, live entertainment and gifts on Christmas Day for anyone in the local community who wants to come along. The whole day is free for guests, transport can be provided and there are even goody bags to take home!
Our Christmas Tale…
Christmas isn’t always as ideal as the adverts make it out to be. For some, it’s a very difficult time. In such a rural area, it’s easy for people to become socially isolated. The idea for Open House was sparked when we in our first year, starting only with a Facebook page, we pulled together to make the day happen in under six weeks.
The community and local businesses showed their incredible support by donating food, gifts and decorations and volunteers worked their Christmas socks off decorations the hall and peeling mountains of spuds in the true spirit of Christmas. Thanks to Shropshire Council, we were able to use The Centre on Oak Street to host our special event. Sixty-three people attended including our volunteers! It really was a day to remember!
2016 will be our third Oswestry Open House Community Christmas Day.
