CHALK Chomps is the newly opened “Pay What You Can Afford” cafe. Run from The Centre in Oak St we aim for this cafe to grow into a space where we support and work alongside various community groups. At present we are open on Tuesday mornings 9-1 whilst the Oswestry Early Help and Advice session is running. During this time advisors are on hand to give advice on anything from breast-feeding to benefits, housing and childcare. Any problems, there will be someone who can help or point you in the right direction to get help.
We envision the growth of the cafe to encourage healthy living and diet by providing nutritious meals at a price that everyone can afford. We are partnering up with Fareshare which allows us to collect waste food from supermarkets otherwise destined for landfill and aim for the community garden to supplement this food with organically grown vegetables and fruit with minimum food miles. We foresee that the space will also become a place of education, giving advice in food budgeting and cookery lessons to enable people living on small budgets to make the most of their income.
