ALERT Furniture Scheme
Alert Furniture Scheme
ALERT Furniture Scheme provides free furniture to those re homed from homelessness, fires or those unable to purchase furniture due to hardship and crisis.
It is our belief that the living environment of a person affects their mental health and wellbeing. Lack of basic home comforts can have a serious detrimental effect on all of these factors.
The ALERT project redirects donated furniture, which may otherwise have gone to landfill, to families who are living in furniture poverty.
We believe every child should have a bed and every family should have somewhere to gather and eat, regardless of their circumstances. Reports show that a positive living environment can help people create the best possible life for themselves.
How does it work?
Employment agencies, housing associations and social services refer clients to Alert Furniture Scheme, but you can also refer yourself, a friend or family member. We ask no questions, we do not pry into a persons private circumstances; to ask for help can be difficult enough. We collect items donated by the public and then deliver them without charge to the client.
What can I donate?
Many of our clients have been housed from homelessness or crisis, which has left them with no furniture. We therefore accept everything you might need to set up home. This includes sofas, beds, chests of drawers, wardrobes, coffee tables, clean bedding, bookcases, curtains, crockery, white goods, small kitchen appliances and much more.
All we ask is that you ensure that all items you donate are clean and in good working order.
All sofas must have fire safety labels still attached.
