Welcome to CHALK CIC
CHALK CIC is a not for profit social enterprise, which co-ordinates a number of community projects enabling local people from all backgrounds to learn valuable skills to enrich their lives and build a better community.
Our shops are the centre pin of the whole organisation. They are the main source of income for our community projects, which relieve social isolation and poverty.
The ethos of CHALK is simple; whoever walks through our door is treated with respect, kindness and non-judgement. As a company, we are focused on improving our community and we believe that starts with how we treat each other.
The home of CHALK is our main shop on Leg Street. It buzzes with activity and positivity and it’s just how we like it! Led by Wendy, our Creative Director, our Leg street store stocks beautifully re-upholstered bespoke furniture as well as re-loved furniture up-cycled by our volunteers in store. We also sell collectables, textiles, fren-chic furniture paint and gifts. Most furniture for sale in store can be painted or reupholstered by request on a commission basis. If you would like to have a go yourself, why not book in for one of our upholstery workshops?
The sister to our main shop is CHALK Outlet. It is the home of our Alert furniture scheme and CHALK Chops our community fuel project. In addition to these projects the outlet sells furniture and bric a brac at discount prices.
Oswestry Open House is a community project that began in November 2014. There seemed to be many people in Oswestry that wanted companionship on Christmas Day and it seemed obvious that a community Christmas would be the way forward.
Alert Furniture Scheme
ALERT Furniture Scheme provides free furniture to those re homed from homelessness, fires or those unable to purchase furniture due to poverty and crisis.
CHALK Chops is a project that has three beneficial outcomes. Run from Cabin House, the same location as the community garden, the farmer benefits by being able to diversify in a time where his traditional crops are selling at a loss by selling to us his wood stock and renting us space.
Volunteers play an important part in all our activities. We have built up a good rapport with local schools and colleges, encouraging work experience students over the age of 14 to spend time with one or more of our community projects.

Liquid Paint Factory
We have teamed up with Liquid Print Factory to create a unique range of up cycled mid-century furniture. With our vision and Liquid Print’s skills we designed and produced the “Figaro collection” available in store.
We LOVE Hermon and as a blossoming community entertainment hub we want to support them and thankfully they want to support us too. They graciously gave over their space for sorting out the masses of donations we have had from our community… without realising what they let them selves into.
